kitty copy cat

first jeffrey campbell releases the "99" heel, which reeks of influence from acne's atacoma

at least that some somewhat its own shoe. now they have released their "new design"-- a collaboration with LF boutique.

free

for whatever reason, free people really kills it with their shoe selection. their clothing selection is still somewhat stuck in the boho chic trend of a few years ago, but they're keeping right up with the footwear trends.

high

i am finding myself drawn to high collared velvet dresses lately. i know that's extremely specific, yet true. no, i can't explain it.

(photo: bonadrag)

i'm preferring more vintage than this cream velvet number from bona drag, but still. now the question remains-- will i look like an escaped member from the cast of little house on the prairie? we'll have to see...

danger

i feel like sitting in these leggings could be quite a risky move

kudos to anyone who can pull this off without looking like an ill-advised high schooler shopping at hot topic, because i know that's what i would look like if i tried.

this is big

alexander mcqueen. i don't even know where to start.

mcqueen's collection, named plato's atlantis, was broadcast live on the internet tuesday night. well, it was supposed to, but of course the website crashed. was it because of the out of control shoes, prosthetic makeup, skyscraper hair, or graphic prints? maybe. it's more likely that lady gaga's announcement on twitter that her new single would debut during the show was responsible.

even without lady gaga's single (which only plays during the models' final walk) the show was absolutely over the top. and i mean that in every good way.

there was the opening video projection of a naked raquel zimmerman writhing in sand with snakes across her body. there were the huge robotic cameras on continuously tracking up and down the runway. there were SHOES, and yes that needs to be in capital letters. and the clothes weren't too bad, either.

what was mcqueen's idea behind all of this madness? he claims he was "casting an apocalyptic forecast of the future ecological meltdown of the world: Humankind is made up of creatures that evolved from the sea, and we may be heading back to an underwater future as the ice cap dissolves."

what does this translate to?

(photos: style.com, refinery29, cartoonstyles)

kind of amazing. the shoes are definitely going to be the nina ricci heel-less platforms of this season. once you get past all of the theatrics it's actually quite a wearable collection. maybe not for people like me that have nothing fancy to go to, but some risk-taking star who wants to make a statement on the red carpet need not look any further. rihanna and lady gaga? are you listening?

architectural mini dresses with digital graphic prints was the obvious theme. nipped waists, structured bell skirts, voluminous sleeves, and sharp shoulders showed up repeatedly throughout the show. the detailed and technical tailoring of the dresses had mcqueen's signature mark. the digital graphic prints at times looked more like close-up shots of butterflies or koi fish than apocalyptic reptiles, but nonetheless the prints are imaginative, original, and much needed after such monochromatic shows of the season.

watch the runway show here. trust me-- it's worth it just to see how the models actually walk in those shoes.

do it yourself

DIY heaven. this makes me feel horribly uncrafty with my own attempts. read outsapop blog.

cutting costs

you can always count on viktor & rolf to bring out something you'd never even imagined.

"With the credit crunch and everybody cutting back, we decided to cut tulle ball gowns."

too good.
real imagination in design. this is why fashion can be art.

cozy

it is a lot warmer today than it was yesterday, but the freezing memories are still fresh in my mind. this brings me to what i am currently fixated on:

(photo: asos)

fleece pants. i can't even imagine how comfortable i would be in these.
the print/structured pockets remind me of henrik vibskov, and sadly are about the same price. DIY? it could be dangerous-- there probably isn't anything worse than poorly made homemade fleece pants.

rut

feeling in need of some major inspiration. i hate fashion ruts.

(photos: lna, style.com, vogue paris)

seasons changing throws my whole wardrobe off. like realizing the fact that i don't have any heavy cardigans and can't seem to find one that i like. i'm just burrowing in my bed and not getting out, since my feather comforter is warmer than any cardigan will ever be. tomorrow i'm going to do some fall re-organizing and maybe find some things to point me in some sort of cool weather direction. maybe.
