mark fast showed his spring '10 ready to wear collection at london fashion week. people aren't really talking about the clothes (not that i can blame them-- they aren't anything too special) but instead the models he chose to send down the runway. fast is known for his "skinny, cobwebby, knitted" dressing, which he decided to showcase on plus size models for his show. as written on style.com: "According to Amanda May, Fast's managing director, his show stylist quit over the designer's insistence on including three models from a plus agency on the runway amongst regular girls." i'm not sure exactly what "regular girls" is supposed to mean in the context of runway shows, but that's besides the point. is fast putting these girls on the runway just to develop some publicity? he obviously did not try to flatter their bodies-- other looks from his show would have been better suited for larger body types. he also used only three plus sized models, while the rest were "regular" girls. on one hand i appreciate a designer using different body types, but i can't tell if this is being done in a respectful or progressive way. anyways-- here are images of both "larger girls" and "normal girls" for you to decide yourself:

The plus size model looks incredibly sad. I don't know what to take from that.
ReplyDeletewell they all do, really. i guess "sad" was the look they were going for?
ReplyDeleteMaybe it just feels more devastating because they clearly aren't like normal girls.
